ALFRISTON LIVES: Alfriston has never lacked interesting and even famous residents, people who though not necessarily well known in terms of TV celebrity have contributed, or continue to contribute, remarkably to their own fields of expertise locally or on the global stage. As a gift to the village, local independent publisher Phreestyle Pholios, is collecting fascinating facts of Alfriston residents past and present, to create a limited edition reference work, which will be available at the Church or War Memorial Hall, and also at the East Sussex Record Office, the National Libraries network and the British Library. You are important to this unique social history which will be a priceless resource for future researchers long after our current times. Please let us know your story. A maximum of 750 words per entry; a photograph would be welcome but is not essential. The only rule is that suggested individuals must have lived in Alfriston for at least part of their lives.

EASTER BONNET: Today (Friday) is National Wear a hat day and what could be lovelier than making an Easter Bonnet. The children of Alfriston Pre school are getting ready for their Easter Egg Hunt in Friston Forest on 6th April between 11am and 2pm. There will also be an Easter Hat competition at noon. You are welcome to join in.

BLUEBELLS: Although nature dictates the speed at which plants grow, Arlington Bluebell Walks will open on April 8 until May 14, the anemones are already out, promising an early flowering. This is always such a lovely walk with plenty for all ages and guaranteed to make even the most cynical smile at the beauty of nature. Follow their season http://www.bluebellwalk.co.uk/

SPRING MUSIC: Sunday 7pm St Andrews, Pro Musica directed by Ray Maulkin and Kathryn Sargent presents Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle. As a title this is somewhat misleading as this work is neither small nor solemn. In fact as it was written in his later life it is full of life, energy and melody. Perfect for a spring evening. Tickets are £12 and available at church from Ray and Kathryn on the door or reserved via email [email protected]

GET INVOLVED: The village diary is full of fabulous events for 2017 and although they come in all shapes and sizes, ensuring there is something for everyone, they each have one thing in common, they require organisation and helpers in order to make sure they are as fabulous as the vision. So why not get involved. I shall be writing about each event as it approaches but also having liaised with the organisers put out information about what support is needed. There will be something for everyone to get involved in. Events that immediately spring to mind are Sussex Day June 10 this year being organised and run by the Pre School with craft stalls, refreshments, games and performances. Flower Festival, June 16 to 19, will ensure Alfriston and Lullington are blooming. Contact the organisers.
