THE CLERGY HOUSE: There are a couple of notable anniversaries to be celebrated this year and therefore dates for the diary. Locally the Old Clergy House reopens on February 27. 120 years since it was the first property purchased by The National Trust for £10. It truly has inspired their conservation principles ever since. The team at the house are celebrating with a season long visual exhibition, costumed tours, ranger talks and family trails telling the story of the key figures who saved this rare medieval house for the nation. The actual anniversary will be celebrated on April 16. If you have not been for a while why not visit their website www.nationaltrust.org.uk/alfriston and find out what is planned.

BEACONS: On April 21 beacons will be lit across the land and overseas to celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday (her actual one). Alfriston Parish have registered their intention to light a beacon with her majesty’s pageant master (yes that really is a job title). Plans are currently being agreed for the surrounding celebrations and will be shared in the next couple of weeks. But please save the date. You can be sure it will be a village thing with the likelihood of tea and cake.

DIARY DATES: Other immediate dates for your diary are: Alfriston Parish Council meet next on Monday at 7.15pm Alfriston War Memorial Hall. Tea and Tables at St Andrews with Cuckmere Community Bus. Saturday February 20, 10am to 2pm.
