All aboard at Pebsham school

IT WAS a case of 'all aboard' at Pebsham school on Friday, when it was transformed into a cruise liner for the day as part of it's 'summer learning journey'.

Under the guidance of teacher Liz Hutchinson, year six students turned classrooms into various settings that would be found on a real cruise ship including, cabins, a beauty treatment room, games room, cinema, and an outside sundeck and pool.

She praised the students for their hard work organising the event and said they really had to take credit for the day's success adding, "it's definitely been a case of all hands on deck."

The day was clearly a lot of fun for both staff and students and Head teacher Pat Strickson emphasised that whist the event gave students a taste of a "real life experience", and they had "a lot of freedom throughout the day", it was still, "very structured".

She added: "All the children applied for 'jobs' on the cruise-liner, from cabin crew and stewards to officers. They are learning without them thinking they are learning."

Eleven year old Captain Oliver, said he found the day to be "really enjoyable", whilst First Officer Sam said: "I've really liked it as I got to see what it's like to work on a ship. It's something that I'd like to do when I leave school."

To complete the ship's entertainment, and as a finale to the day, students performed a talent show.
