All go for team as they Race for Life

Customers at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre took to the athletics track in a new fundraising initiative to raise money for Cancer Research's Race for Life event.

A team of eight from the centre took part in the traditional Horsham Race for Life event on Sunday 5th June whilst colleagues and customers took a new approach to showing their support.

On Thursday June 9 the centre held a bake and book sale in their café to raise additional funds. Favourites included lemon drizzle, muffins and Victoria sponges alongside Head Receptionist Lidia’s famous sausage rolls!

But the icing on the cake was the Go Kart racing. Customers donated to try out the Go Karts, usually reserved for kids parties, and hours were spent racing around the track, some more competitive than others, to raise extra money.

Lidia at Broadbridge Heath who arranged the event comments “The 50+ group at the centre wanted to get involved and do something different.

They came up with the idea of the Go Karts as it’s something they had seen the kids doing but never got to do themselves and were happy to donate and have a go”.

The team raised nearly £300 from their efforts and look forward to taking part again in next years race for life events.
