All hands needed to help deck out Rye for festival

Residents are being called on to help transform the town for this year’s Rye Festival.

The whole of Rye will be decked out with bunting for the month of September this year if the organisers of Rye Art Trail have anything to do with it.

Rye Arts Festival will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in September and several special events have been planned to mark this occasion.

Rye Art Trail has for the last three years helped promote the Festival with local artists displaying their work in windows throughout the town from August Bank Holiday to the end of the Festival, and this year they want to decorate the whole of the town with bunting, and perhaps even break the world record for bunting.

Wendy Harvey, who helps organise the Art Trail, said: “But someone has to make the bunting and we are asking for local groups of adults, children, local schools and residents to get involved.

“The first Bunting Evening will be held on Wednesday April 13 in Martello Bookshop, Rye High Street at 7.30pm.

“Please bring along any suitable material, if you have any, scissors and plenty of enthusiasm.”
