Alliance and council talk regeneration

THE latest in a series of meetings between a pressure group and the council tackled the regeneration of Bexhill.

The Bexhill Alliance, launched last November by a group of residents frustrated by a perceived lack of consultation by Rother District Council (RDC), were offered the series of informative talks as a gesture of goodwill by the council.

And at the Town Hall last week, RDC director of services Tony Leonard and head of regeneration Graham Burgess told the alliance the considered consultation was critical to regenerating the town.

Brian Cope, spokesman for the alliance, said a "lively" question and answer session followed talks about the role of the council, and the regeneration steering group.

"The audience felt that public consultation at the outset, not when plans had already been formalised, was essential if public support was to be galvanised," said Brian.

The meetings are open to Bexhill Alliance members and invited guests.
