ALPACA SHOT IN THE HEAD

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of an Alpaca/Llama in Glynde which took place overnight, sometime after 6.30pm on Wednesday October 19 and before 7.50am on Thursday, October 20.

The animal was shot twice in the head and unfortunately had to be put to sleep by a local vet. An x-ray revealed two pellets, possibly from an airgun, had been fired into the animal.

A police spokeswoman said: "Animals are often the innocent victims of crimes involving these weapons. The use of imitation BB guns and air weapons has become a nationwide issue and Sussex is no exception, often incidents involving such weapons are committed by young people and we therefore ask for the help of parents and guardians to ensure their children are aware of the consequences."

Youngsters can be jailed for up to six months or fined 5,000 for brandishing a weapon in a public place.
