Amber aims to spice things up

RYE area residents are being urged to get behind their favourite Indian restaurant and vote for them in a national competition.

The call comes from curry loving MP Amber Rudd who wants to see local restaurants taking a high profile in the prestigious Parliamentary Award for South Asian Restaurant.

Every year the Tiffin Cup in awarded in Parliament to the best South Asian Restaurant that is nominated by an MP. There are finals followed by a “cook-off” in the House of Commons and Amber is a keen supporter.

Rye alone has a number of Asian restaurants, the latest of which is the Ambrette, run by award winning chef Dev Biswal.

In 2011 Amber invited nominations from the area and new restaurant in St Leonards, the Taj Mahal, reached the regional finalists and then went onto win the national prize following a competitive “cook-off” in the House of Commons.

“Last year was a tremendous success for Hastings,” said Amber, “This year I am inviting nominations from Rye and the villages outside Hastings.

Residents should send their recommendations to me at amber.rudd.mp@parliament.uk and whichever gets the most nominations will be our constituency’s entry for the Tiffin Cup and hopefully we can repeat the success of last year.”
