Amber calls forblack-spot action

The MP met with East Guldeford residents recently to discuss their concerns over the notorious section of the A259 road.

Amber said “I completely appreciate the concern that the local residents in East Guldeford have regarding the roads in this area.

“You can really see that at the junction opposite the Salts Farm Shop there is a real pinch point for traffic. I was particularly interested in their thoughts on how to alleviate the problems that include the two rail crossings at Star Point and East Guldeford.”

In 2012 a 31 year old St Leonards man died when his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a heavy lorry at East Guldeford.

Figures then showed there were 38 collisions on the A259 crossing Romney Marsh in 2010.

Three involved fatalities, two involved serious injuries, 19 involved slight injuries and 14 were damage only.

Many residents living near bends on the road have had vehicles crash onto their property through hedges and fences.

Following the meeting Amber has written to East Sussex County Council and the Highways Agency to look into the thoughts of the local residents and what can be done to help them. Network Rail have also been contacted regarding the two rail crossings.

She said: “I have now written to the authorities responsible for the roads in this area and I look forward their response. The residents of East Guldeford have put up a compelling case for change and I hope they will be listened to.”
