Amberley farmers' fury over horses left to graze illegally

FARMERS in Amberley Wildbrooks area have been plagued by an irresponsible horse owner who dumps as many as 11 horses in their fields to graze illegally.

During the last few months there have been instances on farms between Coldwaltham and Amberley, where assorted horses have been let into fields and left there to graze.

The latest incident occurred on land owned by Sussex Wildlife Trust and the RSPB at Downs Farm, Amberley.

Peter Hughes of the RSPB said: "Somebody dropped off 11 horses in a field at the farm recently. A note was pinned to the gate with an incomplete telephone number so, there was no way the owner could be contacted.

"This has been going on for several months in the area, including farmland at places like Coldwaltham and Graffham. It is illegal and extremeley unhelpful for the farmers who own or rent the land."
