Ambitions set on Littlehampton picking up top park title

MEWSBROOK Park is hoping to turn other open spaces in the country green with envy in a bid to become the most popular site in the land.

With Littlehampton still revelling in the success of the South and South East in Bloom gold award, Mewsbrook is hoping to share some of that glory and earn the top spot in a nationwide competition.

The park will be one of about 1,400 Green Flag-winning sites competing to be named this year’s people’s choice in an online vote.

Organisers of the initiative are urging as many people to come forward and vote for their favourite.

Paul Todd, Green Flag award scheme manager, said: “Our judges have decided on the parks which have reached the high standards of a Green Flag award, but the people’s choice award gives the public the chance to decide which park or green space deserves the accolade of the nation’s favourite.”

Those wishing to take part in the voting process should visit www.greenflagaward.org.uk where they will be able to select Mewsbrook from an interactive map on the site.

The poll closes at midnight, on Sunday, October 14.

Councillor Paul Dendle, Arun District Council’s cabinet member for the environment, with responsibility for district’s parks and open spaces, is encouraging the countless visitors, who regularly enjoy the park’s facilities to get involved and support it, along with the district’s other Green Flag-winning sites, Hotham Park, in Bognor Regis, and Aldwick’s Marine Park Gardens.

He said: “Our staff and contractors have worked incredibly hard to retain green flag status in these three parks so that residents and visitors can appreciate the environment that we have on our doorstep that are free to enjoy.

“I will be casting my vote in appreciation of their hard work and encourage all park visitors to do the same.”

Mewsbrook first picked up the prestigious flag, in 2005.
