Amputee sues ex-employer £500k

A PARALYMPIC hopeful who had the lower part of his leg amputated following an industrial accident is suing his former employer for more than half a million pounds.

Ben Polidano, from Ensign Way, Littlehampton, was crushed when a six-tonne steel beam fell on his legs on December 27, 2010.

At the time of the accident he had been working for construction firm Sir Robert McAlpine, delivering sections of a new bridge to Pouparts Junction, north of Clapham Junction.

Following the accident, Mr Polidano needed to have the lower part of his left leg amputated and reconstruction work to his right leg, which suffered multiple fractures.

The claim form says there is a ‘quantifiable chance’ this leg will need to be amputated in the future.
