Angmering Masterplan goes on view

The proposals, drawn up by a consortium of developers, were first made public at a special meeting of Angmering Parish Council last month and on Thursday will be on display at the Angmering Village Hall, Station Road, from 1-7pm.

They were given a mixed reception at last month’s meeting, and the parish council has since written a critical letter to Arun District Council, which has worked with the developers on the plan and took part in January’s presentation.

If eventually approved, the new housing would be on land east of Roundstone Lane, including Worthing Rugby Club’s present ground, and the West End Nursery site.

Parish council clerk Rob Martin, in his letter to Karl Roberts, Arun assistant director of planning services and economic regeneration, states: “The effect on infrastructure and quality of life caused by more substantial development in Angmering has been expressed before. The masterplan as presented does nothing to satisfy any concerns in this respect, and the underlying question of how sustainable the proposals are is certainly in question.”

Speaking at last month’s meeting, parish and Arun councillor Paul Bicknell called for a link road from the new development onto the A280 Angmering bypass, as an alternative to all traffic having to use Roundstone Lane for access. It’s not known whether the link road will be included in the plans at the exhibition on Thursday.
