Angmering teachers protest against pay and pension reforms

TEACHERS in Angmering protested this morning (Thursday, June 27) against proposed changes to the education system by the Government.

Staff from The Angmering School held a 35-minute demonstration against planned alterations to teachers’ pay and pensions which have been widely criticised by teaching unions nationwide.

The action, which finished before lessons began at the school, was called for by both the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the NASUWT and was designed to coincide with wide-spread strikes by teachers and staff in the north-west of England today.

Mark Slatter, specialist leader for students with specific learning difficulties at the school and Angmering’s NUT representative, felt the demonstration had been received ‘warmly’ by other staff and students.

He said: “Around 18 staff turned out early today with the intention of giving a clear message to this Government that we have had enough of pay and pension reforms being forced upon us without any form of consultation.

“We were ‘Standing Up For Education’ as our T-shirts proudly stated and this message was warmly received by staff and students alike as they entered the school.”
