Angmering’s model railway show a ‘smash hit’ for Chestnut Tree House

IT WAS full steam ahead for Angmering’s first model railway show, on Saturday (May 26), which saw an impressive sum raised for charity.

Almost 250 attended Angmering’s first, Model Railway Show, at the village hall, in Station Road, to see the 13 different layouts and exhibits on offer.

The day raised more than £400 for the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice, in Poling, and saw model railway lovers from as far afield as the Kent and the Isle of Wight come down to display their intricate contraptions.

The star of the show, which was organised by members from the West Sussex Area Group N Gauge Society, was Peter Corish with his imaginative fantasy world of Golowood – a miniature town built entirely from Lego that included a replica section of the Bluebell Railway’s viaduct system.

The Thomas the Tank Engine miniature line, which was also on display during the day, proved to be a smash hit with some of the younger visitors to the event, with children lapping up the chance to control the fictional railway icon.

A large raffle and prize-giving ceremony rounded off the day’s proceedings.

West Sussex Area Group N Gauge Society member Richard Hance, of Birch Close, Angmering, helped to organise the fund-raising show.

He said: “So many people were saying that it was a great exhibition and asked us when we would be coming back to Angmering. It was a tremendous day, which I could have never have predicted.”

He thanked all the local businesses that donated prizes for the raffle.
