Increasing in popularity year on year, the competition aims to promote civic pride and celebrate the achievements and enthusiasm of horticulturists of all ages.

Littlehampton gardeners are encouraged to enter and there is even the chance for children to take part, with a ‘grow the tallest sunflower’ challenge.

People can either enter themselves or nominate a neighbour with green-fingered skills worthy of recognition. The closing date is June 27.

Ian Buckland, chairman of the allotments sub-committee, said: “The competition has grown in popularity throughout the years, with a record number of new entrants taking part last year, which demonstrates that we have many keen gardeners of all ages and abilities in our town.

“We are really keen to see a few more entries in the commercial category, so if you’re a local business and have a garden, courtyard or wall for hanging baskets, get involved.”

Nominees must reside within the BN17 postcode. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including best communal garden. Commercial premises and allotment holders are also eligible to enter in specific categories.
