Another stepping stone for homeless

HOMELESS charity Stonepillow has revamped one of its new '˜move-on' properties to help those on the street start a new life.

This property, in Chichester, provides Stonepillow’s users with supported accommodation, after having completed the Stonepillow’s recovery programme at Sands in Bognor Regis. This includes living an abstinent lifestyle and working towards building an independent life.

Sylvie Johnston, chief executive of the charity, said: “Stonepillow believe that recovery from substance misuse for homeless people is about three things: abstinence from substances, improved wellbeing and self-worth, and positive participation and community integration.

“To achieve that journey and motivate individuals to succeed homeless people need to be able to access decent and affordable housing they can call ‘home’.”

The charity has put that message into practice by providing a new and improved ‘move-on’ home for clients.

The building has undergone internal work to increase capacity to eight units, while four kitchenettes were installed to create new self-contained-style units.

A grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and additional financial support from Chichester District Council made the refurbishment project possible.
