THE Commonwealth Games may be over for another four years, but Heathfield Silver Band had an opportunity to brush up on the Canadian national anthem at an unusual medal ceremony at Horsted Place Country House Hotel near Uckfield.

Guests Michael and Priscilla Wise commissioned the band to play for their Canadian friends Stanley and Sharon Jacobson as they arrived at the hotel, explained the hotel manager Elizabeth Brown.

The couples have been friends for 30 years and have made a tradition of playing practical jokes whenever they visit each other's country. Previous stunts have included a horse and carriage 'courtesy car' and a violinist in a hotel bedroom.

Having presented Dr and Mrs Jacobson with Friendship Medals the foursome enjoyed a glass of finest champagne whilst being treated to an impromptu concert.

Hotel manager Elizabeth Brown said: 'It was an unusual request but it was great fun to organise and everyone at Horsted Place is very grateful to the Heathfleld Silver Band for putting on such a superb performance.'
