THE Discover Bexhill website received an extra 2,500 hits during and after Sunday's televising of the BBC's Antiques Roadshow, based at the De La Warr Pavilion.

It was the second Antiques Roadshow emanating from a day's filming in the pavilion and on the pavilion terrace last summer.

The previous show had a 30th anniversary theme. Sunday's was more generalised.

Bexhill Chamber of Commerce and Tourism says of Sunday's screening: "This was a really good promotion for Bexhill, Chamber member Alastair Hazel's website www.discoverbexhill.com received an extra 2,500 hits during and after the programme.

"This included 21 enquiries for accommodation and 10 requests via the site for a copy to be sent in the post of the current Bexhill Guide, plus many questions from potential visitors and, interestingly, questions about what is available in Bexhill from couples planning to get married here."

Chamber communications officer Sue Spice says: "Between us Alastair and I have answered these questions but it does make you wonder if we weren't willing to take on this time-consuming task, or if we did not know the answers, as we do not have a TIC who would respond to all these questions from potential visitors?"

Sunday's Antiques Roadshow can still be viewed until tomorrow by logging on to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
