Cars were queueing to get into the Avenue de Chartres car park this morning (October 21).

The Sloe Fair in the Northgate car park and Wednesday market at the Cattle Market led lots of people to head for the multi-storey, only to find one of the two entrance barriers blocked off.

“We have experienced a slight technical problem with a camera on one of the entry barriers to the Avenue de Chartres car park,” said a council spokeswoman.

“In order to prevent delays, we have temporarily suspended the use of this barrier.

“However, car park users are still able to get in and out of the car park, using the other three barriers.

“We currently have an engineer on site and hope to have the camera fixed soon.”

She said staff were also at the site, assisting car park users.

“Unfortunately, due to the Northgate car park being closed due to the Sloe Fair and half of the cattle market car park being used for the traders market, this has created an increased demand on Avenue de Chartres car park, which is why it has also taken longer for people to enter the car park this morning. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”

The Northgate car park is expected to reopen at lunchtime today and the spokeswoman said it was hoped this would help ease the pressure on Avenue de Chartres.
