AN AUTHOR who is writing a book about Victorian artist Sir Frank Dicksee is appealing for help in finding out about this portrait of Seaford resident Florence Jane Hartung.

It was painted by the artist in 1925 and exhibited at the Royal Academy later that year.

Florence (nee Dean) born 1854, died in 1944 and her husband was Frederick Morris Hartung who was apparently the first man in Seaford to own a motor car.

She lived at Claremont House. The author is hoping to track down the portrait.

Writer Simon Toll said: “Yes, the picture has not been seen publicly since 1925 and the Hartung family have not seen it in living memory.

“When or if I find it I will be including the details in a full catalogue of Dicksee’s paintings and perhaps illustrating it in the book too.”

Simon is appealing for anyone with information. If you can help email
