Appeal after distraction burglary attempt in Crawley

Police have appealed for witnesses to an attempted distraction burglary.

Sussex Police was called to a home in Falcon Close, Langley Green, on Wednesday (February 3).

A spokesman said: “At 3.10pm two men claiming to work for the council asked the elderly residents to check their water supply before going into their home. One of the men then distracted them while the other went into the other rooms.

“The suspects quickly left after being spotted by a neighbour and were last seen walking south along Langley Drive, towards the A23.”

The first man was described as a white, aged in his 30s, and of large build. He was wearing a black jacket with a black winter hat with flaps on the side and possibly jeans.

The second man was described as white, aged in his late 50s and was wearing a cream coloured hat with a red and blue pattern on and a dark jacket.

Detective Constable Gavin Percival said: “Fortunately nothing has been stolen. Please contact us if you saw these men or their vehicle.

“I would always ask residents to remain on their guard and fully check the identification of any unexpected visitors.”
