Appeal for Fun and Breaks volunteers

VOLUNTEERS are needed for an old service with a new name.

Fun and Breaks is the new guise for West Sussex County Council’s sitting service for parents with disabled children.

As Michelle Watts, Fun and Breaks manager, said: “Caring for a disabled child can be a tough task and a break can make all the difference.

“The disabled child may also need additional support to access everyday activities and to participate fully in society.

“That’s the value of Fun And Breaks and that’s why we are looking for volunteers who could offer just a couple of hours a week to give a family a helping hand, either by caring for the child at home or by taking the child out to do an activity.

“Full training and support is given, so no special experience is required.”

Peter Evans, cabinet member for children and families, said the sitting service’s new name summed it up perfectly.

“It’s fun for the child who is being cared for and can be fun for any brothers and sisters they may have.

“It gives families a break – the opportunity to enjoy activities and leisure pursuits so many of us take for granted,” he added.
