Police are investigating a suspected armed robbery at Willingdon Post Office on Wednesday (January 8).

Shortly after 9am, a masked man entered the shop and threatened a staff member with a sharp instrument stealing almost £6,000, police said.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his late 20s who was wearing a bandana over his face, police said.

The bandana was of the American flag. He had been seen running from the direction of Coopers Hill immediately before the robbery, police said.

Detective Sergeant Nick Chambers said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this man in the area or have any information to assist the investigation.”

Witnesses call 101.
