Appeal for witnesses after '˜frightening' knifepoint robbery

A man was threatened at knifepoint and forced to hand over cash in a '˜frightening attack' in Kemp Town, police have said.

Police are investigating the incident which took place at 3am on Wednesday (January 11), when a man along the southern end of Upper Rock Gardens - close to St Mary’s Church - was threatened by a man with a knife.

The suspect demanded money, which the victim handed over, before pushing him to the chest. He then threatened him with a knife and demanded more cash, the victim’s phone and bank card. The victim gave him more money before managing to push the suspect and run away.

Detective Constable Aaron Halsey said: “Thankfully the victim was not injured during this frightening attack in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“Despite officers carrying out an extensive search of the area the suspect was not located and police are now asking for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something to get in touch. The suspect, who is described as white, approximately 25-years-old and of skinny build, was wearing black trousers, a dark coloured hoody and a black baseball cap.”
