With winter fast approaching and the temperatures dropping, families in the Bognor Regis area are struggling to afford to heat their homes.

But help is at hand through the Bognor Lions.

Through their annual Wenceslas Appeal members are asking those about to receive their Winter Fuel Payment if they really need it. Chairman Richard Johns explained: “Increasingly people are being faced with the appalling decision of whether to keep themselves warm or feed themselves.

“We are not just talking about the elderly, but young families who are struggling.

“The Winter Fuel Allowance is automatically given to people of pensionable age, and we are asking for those who don’t need it to consider giving it to people who really do.”

Mr Johns said an article in the Observer in August had already seen two lots of £200 donated. Every penny goes to people in the area, and is distributed through a number of local charities.

Cheques written to Lions Wenceslas Account should be sent to c/o Richard Johns, 6 The Ridings, Aldwick Bay, Bognor Regis, PO21 4HP, or money can be paid directly: Account no: 00025565; sort code:40-52-40.
