Appeal to track down
remote chalet thieves

A MAN is appealing for information after the woodland chalet that has been in his family for more than 60 years was broken into.

Peter Parnell says it is the first time he has expeperienced any problem at the chalet, in remote woodland near Furnace Lane, Beckley, since his family built it in 1946.

The break-in took place sometime between Friday August 6 and Sunday August 8. Thieves used specialist tools to undo bolts and gain access without causing any damage.

Mr Parnell said: “I know this is a long time ago but I am hoping someone may have heard something in the meantime or that it may twig their memory.

“We have never had a problem there as it is so remote and most people would not even know how to find it. I played there as a child and now my great grandchildren go there.

“It was very secure with a locked gates but the thieves had obviously taken a look and knew what tools to bring along to get inside.”

Stolen items included a 16 inch Bar McColough chain saw, a new one metre long log splitting axe. a Sony portable radio and a wind-up radio, garden shears and a pine wall clock.

The thieves carted it away in an orange plastic wheelbarrow owned by Mr Parnell.

He said: “They even took a broken plastic watering can, which I would have given them for nothing, and an air freshener.”
