Application to explore for oil and gas up before county council

A company hoping to drill for oil and gas near Adversane will find out of its application to explore for energy deposits has been successful next week.

West Sussex County Council’s planning committee will decide if Celtique Energie’s application for a temporary drilling rig at Woodbarn Farm near Broadford Bridge should be approved on Tuesday February 5 in County Hall, Chichester, at 10.30am.

Geoff Davies, chief executive officer at Celtique, said they had identified residents’ concerns including road safety, and they would look to work with the highways authority to establish whether traffic-calming measures were needed for Adversane Lane.

He added: “We’re hopeful for a positive decision by the county council’s members and we’ll make sure that the local community are informed of the outcome of the meeting.”

Celtique submitted the application in July 2012 after holding a public consultation event in Billingshurst in June.
