Over the next three years he will prepare to join the teams who provide power to more than a quarter of Britain’s population 24hrs a day.

The apprentices specialise in climbing electricity poles, fixing and connecting power cables or kitting out electricity substations.

Sebastian, who will be based at the company’s depot in Portslade while he trains to become an electrical fitter, said: “I heard UK Power Networks is a very good company to work for in terms of how they treat their employees, opportunities for career progression and development.

“As a trainee fitter I will be learning how to install, maintain and repair electrical wiring at electricity substations.”
