Renaissance Retirement will develop the flats, which will be known as Fleur de Lis Haywards Heath, on Bolnore Road.

Parts of the building’s design were inspired by Charles Voysey, the famous English architect and designer who pioneered the ‘Arts & Crafts’ look.

The developers say the luxurious properties will provide an exceptional standard of independent living for those considering downsizing from a larger family home.

Renaissance Retirement built a collection of retirement apartments in Poundbury, Dorchester abd is already selling apartments at its site in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

The company said: “The one and two bedroom apartments will be impeccably finished with contemporary interiors, whilst owners will also have access to a sumptuous owners’ lounge, hobbies room and guest suite, which will be available to visiting friends and relatives. Some of the apartments will also feature stylish mezzanine levels.”

It is anticipated that work on the apartments will start in November 2014, with a show home available to view in Spring 2015.

Nick Watkins, development director at Renaissance Retirement, said: “We are delighted that the planning committee has awarded us consent to build much needed retirement apartments in Haywards Heath.”

“Research estimates over £400 billion of housing wealth is tied up in properties where owners desperately wish to downsize. Renaissance’s luxurious retirement developments such as Fleur de Lis Haywards Heath therefore offer an ideal opportunity for those people approaching their later years who aspire to downsize.”

Robert Taylor, managing director, said: “This is great news for Renaissance Retirement and people in Haywards Heath looking to downsize. We are already receiving huge interest into this great development.

“I’d like to thank our planners Tanner & Tilley and Aspire Architects, as well as the council for approving such an exciting scheme that meets the living needs of local people.”
