£20,000 project to improve reliability of electricity supply in Pulborough

The two-day project by UK Power Networks, starting on May 10, will see 450 metres of power lines on Church Hill, London Road and Church Place replaced.

The works will prevent tree branches interfering with the reliability of power supplies, particularly during stormy conditions, a spokesperson for UK Power Networks said.

Under the project, bare power lines will be replaced with covered lines, grouped together to contain all the wires.

Localised power supplies need to be isolated for a few hours in order to safely carry out the work and anyone affected will be notified in advance.

Senior project manager Allen Aldridge, at UK Power Networks, said: “The aim of this project is to increase the reliability of electricity supplies for local residents by reducing the impact of trees on overhead lines.

“The work should have long-term benefits for the area.”

Temporary traffic lights will be used at off-peak times from 9.30am to 3pm to minimise traffic impact on the A29 while nine spans of power lines and electricity poles are replaced.

Once the work is complete, tree trimming will take place around the line.
