Shop manager Rebeka Lord said: “This shop could not exist without our team of kind, talented and dedicated volunteers.

“Oxfam strives to run shops with minimum paid staff so that donations received can go to the places that really need it.

“So I am only in store 24 hours a week. The rest of the time volunteers take on extra responsibility to run the shop.

“This responsibility looks great on a volunteers CV and really builds confidence, which means that many of our volunteers happily go on to paid work. Unfortunately, this means we are often short staffed.”

Oxfam Bexhill are looking for a variety of volunteers, but their priority is to find volunteer supervisors.

Rebeka said: “We are currently closed on Mondays and Fridays as we just don’t have enough volunteers who are able to open and close the shop.

“We currently have some volunteer supervisors in training so will be opening an extra day soon. But we still need at least two more supervisors to be able to open all week.

“The role of supervisor involves opening/closing the shop and counting the money at the end of the day. In between volunteers serve customers or sort/price stock.

“Full training is given – so it’s not as scary as it sounds. Plus, there will always be other volunteers around and Oxfam’s Shop Support is only ever a telephone call away.”

Oxfam Bexhill is also looking for a marketing volunteer to help create shop window campaigns and to encourage shoppers to visit their social media sites, especially Twitter.

Rebeka says “Our Twitter profile (@OxfamBexhill) has really started to take off recently. We announce our sales and showcase interesting donations on twitter first. And over Christmas the toys from the shop highjacked our twitter feed.
