A27 PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Highways England is holding a consultation on the proposed A27 East of Lewes improvement scheme. Various changes are proposed to junctions which serve both Arlington and Berwick parishes. These may improve road safety and traffic flow. Parishioners are urged to examine these proposals in that light as well as a potential increase traffic volume through the villages and any relationship to the Wealden ‘preferred option’ in the emerging Local Plan given that lack of infrastructure is a key area in the latter. BERWICK PARISH COUNCIL: The next two scheduled meetings of Berwick Parish Council are on November 24 and January 26. Both meetings will be held in Berwick Village Hall.

ROADWORKS: Until today, in Wick Street, Berwick, there will be some carriageway incursions for waterworks. Today, in Station Road, Berwick, there will be a road closure to lift and replace level crossing to allow tamping train to pass through, working will be between 10pm and 5am daily. Today, and during the working day, from outside of Sanfords, heading north to outside 8 Station Road, on Station Road, BT will be excavating ducts to clear blockages. Between today and November 22, in Caneheath at Woodlands/Chelmwood House, there will be some carriageway incursions for the installation of a customer water meter.

COFFEE MORNINGS: Every Thursday morning, between 10.40am to noon in Upper Dicker Village Hall, a coffee morning and book exchange takes place.

YOGA CLASSES: The Yoga class is held every Monday in Arlington Village Hall from 3pm to 4.15pm. It is open to all levels as the yoga taught here can be adapted to suit most individual needs and abilities. To book email [email protected]

AUTUMN FAYRE COFFEE MORNING: Tomorrow, Saturday, from 10.30am to 1.30pm in Upper Dicker Hall there will be an Autumn Fayre Coffee Morning where there will be a sale of cards, jewellery, gifts, toys, craft items and other stalls. CONTRABAND AT ARLINGTON: Tomorrow, Saturday, starting at 7.30pm. Don’t miss Contraband at Arlington Village Hall. Wicked, foot-stomping music and great atmosphere. Real Ale bar and plenty of dancing. Tickets £8.50, £5 (under 16s) from Bluebell Farm Shop and on the door.

COPSE WORK PARTY: On Sunday, a work party will be held in the Dicker Copse, from 10am to noon, when excess Blackthorn and Brambles will be cut back. A small hedge pack has been requested from the Woodland Trust. It is hoped that a few Hazel saplings can be planted to fill a gap in the Copse and that a few Hawthorn and Dog Rose plants can improve the hedgerow. Volunteers are very welcome.

SMALL HOLDING VENTURE: On November 21, in Arlington Village Hall between 7pm and 9pm, the Ecological Land Co-operative is holding a second community meeting to present updated plans for the field to the south of Copyhold Cottages in Arlington Village. Parishioners are encouraged to attend this meeting to hear about any changes in this potential development and to take the opportunity to express their views.

ARLINGTON ARTS GROUP: On November 24 and December 1, between 7pm and 9pm, there will be a demo/workshop with Amanda Rose, silk painting. Places are limited to eight people, first week will be playing and the second week participants will create something. Price is £10 per session as materials will be included. LITTER PICK: On Saturday, November 26, there will be a litter pick in and around Arlington Village, commencing at 10am outside Arlington Village Hall and ending at 1pm. The aim is to clear the verges of litter from the Berwick crossroads along Chilverbridge Road through the village and on to Arlington Road West. Kit will be provided such as litter grabbers, rubbish bags, disposable gloves, hi-vis vests. Tea, coffee and biscuits will provided to the volunteers at the start. Peter Stenning 01323 870 191.

CHRISTMAS WHIST DRIVE: On November 30, staring at 7.15pm in Berwick Village Hall, there will be a Christmas Whist Drive. All are welcome.

CHRISTMAS MARKET: On December 6, in Arlington Village Hall between 10am and 11.30am, there will be a Christmas market. There will be a variety of stalls including home baking, traditional fresh bread and refreshments.

ARLINGTON PARISH COUNCIL: The next Arlington Parish Council meeting will be held on December 15 at 7.30pm in Upper Dicker Village Hall. Parishioners are advised to check the Parish website nearer that date in case this meeting is cancelled http://arlingtonparish.org.uk

CHRISTMAS FAYRE: On December 10 in Arlington Village Hall from 2pm to 6pm, a Christmas Fayre fair will be held. There will 13 stalls selling all kinds of quality Christmas gifts, cakes and goodies. In addition the Seaford Silver Band will be playing Christmas songs and carols. There will be home-made refreshments from Philippa of the Bluebell Farm Shop, mulled wine, and an ale bar run by Long Man Brewery as well as teas and coffees. There will be something for the children too: a games stall and Lucky Dip. The tree will be lit at around 5pm, accompanied with the Silver Band and carol singers of course. And that’s not all. There are some excellent prizes in our Christmas Draw this year including a Bluebell Farm Shop turkey, a Christmas Hamper, and a magnum of champagne, plus lots more exciting prizes.

It is hoped that Arlington Christmas will become an annual event, so do please come along to support it if you can. There will be plenty to buy, eat and win. If you would like to offer some help, please phone Lindy or Tony 01323 488216.

All proceeds will be going to the ancient church of St Pancras, Arlington, to help with various much-needed maintenance projects.

CHRISTMAS IN UPPER DICKER: The following events in Upper Dicker are scheduled during December. On Monday December 12, there will be Carols on the Green followed by Santa and mulled wine at The Village Shop, Upper Dicker. On Thursday December 15, there will be a Christmas Coffee Morning starting at 10.30am in Upper Dicker Village Hall. At 7.30pm on December 15 it is possible there will be an Open Mic session at Upper Dicker Village Hall.
