PARKING IN HAILSHAM: Parishioners are alerted to three planning applications submitted by Tesco proposing the introduction of charging for car parking in the North Street car park. The proposals also include limitations on who may use the car park, a reduction in the duration of parking time and penalties. The planning applications are WD/2016/1964, WD/2016/1965 and WD/2016/1966. Those wishing to make comments may do so to Wealden District Council as soon as possible via http://wealden.gov.uk

COUNCILLOR VACANCY: A position on Arlington Parish Council for a new Councillor will become available from 1 January 2017. Further details will be announced on the parish website at http://arlingtonparish.org.uk and the parish noticeboards. Persons interested in this forthcoming vacancy are advised to attend parish council meetings to familiarise themselves with the work and duties of being a councillor in this parish.

EMERGENCY SERVICES SURVEY: Parishioners are urged to take part in the online survey published by the East Sussex Fire Authority at www.esfrs.org/irmp. They would like to find out what you think about their plans for the future which include: Health emergencies: The Fire Service are considering a pilot where fire crews support the ambulance service by responding to certain calls, Priorities: they have set out their priorities which include ‘drowning prevention’ work and ‘improving business safety.’ As well as the above they are ascertaining whether you think they are giving you value for your money. The survey opened on Monday September 12 and will remain open until November 7. The findings of the consultation will be considered at a Fire Authority meeting in December.

BAGS OF HELP SCHEME: Arlington Parish Council is supporting a community led project to improve the Village Green in Upper Dicker. The Green is a focal point in the village and the project to enhance it has been shortlisted to receive a grant from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme. The groundworks team at Tesco are putting the money that shoppers now all spend on replacement carrier bags straight back into community projects in the vicinity of those who use their local Tesco store. It’s a great idea and you can help secure Upper Dicker a substantial grant by visiting Tesco in Hailsham and voting for the Upper Dicker Village Green Project from October 31 to November 13.

ROADWORKS: Until the October 7, there will traffic disruption on the highway near land at Station Farm, Berwick for a new site entrance construction and footway widening.

AGM: Today, Friday, the Dicker Residents’ Association AGM will start at 7.30pm in Upper Dicker Village Hall. In addition to discussion on planning matters and other issues, up to six committee members are elected. Do come along to the meeting.

ARLINGTON ARTS GROUP: On October 6, Arlington Arts Group are seeking a few volunteers to help with various aspects of running the group so please come along to their next committee meeting at the Arlington Village Hall at 6.30pm before the regular session. MEN’S BREAKFAST: On Saturday October 8 starting at 9 am in Upper Dicker Village Shop. The speaker will be the Rev Dan Merceron who will be telling of his time as an army chaplain.

VILLAGE HALL AGM: On Friday, October 14 starting at 7pm in Arlington Village Hall, the Arlington Village Hall Committee will hold its AGM. All are welcome.

ARLINGTON PARISH COUNCIL: The next Arlington Parish Council meeting will be held on October 20 at 7.30pm in Upper Dicker Village Hall.

WARER TREATMENT TOUR: South East Water are offering the opportunity to join their team of water experts on a two hour tour to see behind the scenes of the Arlington water treatment works on November 12 starting at 10am. Attendees will see how drinking water is stored, treated and supplied to properties in the parish. Entry is strictly by ticket only and places subject to confirmation. COPSE WORK PARTY: A work party will be held in the Dicker Copse on Sunday November 13, from 10am to noon when excess Blackthorn and Brambles will be cut back. A small hedge pack has been requested from the Woodland Trust. It is hoped that a few Hazel saplings can be planted to fill a gap in the Copse and that a few hawthorn and dog rose plants can improve the hedgerow. Volunteers are very welcome.

AUTUMN FAYRE COFFEE MORNING: On Saturday, November 19 from 10.30am to 1.30pm in Upper Dicker Hall there will be an Autumn Fayre Coffee Morning where there will be a sale of cards, jewellery, gifts, toys, craft items and other stalls. CHRISTMAS EVENTS: On December 10, there will be an Advent Fair in Arlington Village Hall from 2pm to 6pm. There are just a few stalls left if anyone has Christmas gifts or produce to sell. Also featuring: The Seaford Silver Band and the Lighting of the Christmas tree, followed by carols under the tree, mulled wine and refreshments. There will be plenty of festive cheer, Christmas gifts and home-made Christmas cakes, puddings and preserves.

UPPER DICKER: The following events in Upper Dicker are scheduled during December. On Monday December 12 there will be Carols on the Green. On Thursday December 15 there will be a Christmas Coffee Morning starting at 10.30am in Upper Dicker Village Hall and on Sunday December 18 Christmas lunch will be served in Upper Dicker Hall.
