Between September 12 and 15, on Station Road, outside 6 Princes Field to near the post office the other side of the railway line, to pull fibre through between boxes.

MEN’S BREAKFAST: Tomorrow, Saturday, at 9am a men’s breakfast will be held in the Village Shop, Upper Dicker. Join David, the Vicar and others for a short talk, time for a chat and a scrumptious breakfast. The breakfasts will be held monthly and in September David will be talking about his Life in Cars.

QUIZ NIGHT: Tomorrow, Saturday, a Quiz Night will be held in Upper Dicker Village Hall, 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Quizmaster Stuart Higgins. Tickets are £7.50 which includes supper (two courses) with tea or coffee. Please bring your own other drinks. Teams are up to six players. HEDGE-LAYING COMPETITION: Tomorrow, Saturday, the Laughton and District Agricultural Society’s annual competition will be hosted by Peter and Jackie Appleton. Spectators are welcome and the entrance is opposite Raylands Farm, Tye Hill Lane on land at Park Barn. Starting around 10.30am/11.30am. Wellies are almost certainly a must. It is unlikely that spectators will be able to get a car close to the action. Further information from 01323 482429

BARN DANCE: Tomorrow, Saturday, a Barn Dance will be held at Bluebell Barn, Bates Green Farm, Tye Hill Lane. Entertainment from Contraband and popular Hastings caller, Keith Leech. Tickets at £6 are available from the Bluebell Farm Shop 01323 483145 or Hailsham Pavilion. Barbecue and refreshments by and in aid of Delmelza Hospice Care for Children. BYO win/beer.

TELEPHONE KIOSK: The telephone kiosk located adjacent to the recreation ground in Coldharbour Road in Upper Dicker has been out of action for some time but should shortly be operational. The kiosk is a cashless payphone so calls using coins cannot be used, but, all other types of calls can be, ie 999 calls, calls using credit/debit cards, prepaid calling cards, transfer charge calls, calls to the operator. BT has confirmed that there are plans to remove the kiosk so if any parishioner wishes to see it retained would they please contact the parish clerk urgently.

YOGA CLASSES: The Yoga class is held every Monday in Arlington Village Hall from 3pm to 4.15pm. It is open to all levels as the yoga taught here can be adapted to suit most individual needs and abilities. Since starting the class in 2015, there is now a group of a dozen ‘regulars’ who have made steady progress. It is enjoyable, informative and fun. To book: Email: [email protected]

PLANNING APPLICATION: A major planning application WD/2016/1659 has been submitted for land at Station Farm in Berwick for 33 new dwellings, three new shops and two new offices plus associated works, to include community photovoltaic panel system.

ARLINGTON PARISH COUNCIL: The next Arlington Parish Council meeting will be held on September 15 and start at the revised time of 7pm in Arlington Village Hall to allow for an extended Public Session. Although Wealden District Council will not be in attendance, the extended public session will allow further comment on the Local Plan as well as some major planning applications in and around the parish. MOBILE LIBRARY: The Mobile Library will call at Arlington Village Hall on September 16 between 2.20pm and 2.45pm and Berwick Village Hall between 2.55pm and 3.10pm. 0345 6080195/106

EXHIBITION: From September 16 to 18, a major exhibition of paintings by Julian Bell will take place between 10am and 5pm at Berwick Church. There will also be a talk by Julian about his work on Sunday, September 18 at 4pm.

ARLINGTON ARTS GROUP: On Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, from 10.30am until 4.30pm, there will be an art exhibition at the Bluebell Barn in Arlington (at Bates Green, home of the annual Arlington Bluebell Walk) as part of the Art Trail for Hailsham Festival of Arts and Culture. Entry is free but there is the opportunity to donate to Myeloma UK in memory of the artist, Anne Howard. The exhibition features work by 12 local artists and craft makers. The woods will also be open to the public that weekend.

On Thursday September 22, starting at 7pm, the Arlington Arts Group will be hosting a demonstration and workshop by artist Jackie Hurwood at Arlington Village Hall. All are welcome. Full details on the website www.arlingtonartsgroup.co.uk

HARVEST THANKSGIVING: On Sunday September 25 starting at 11am there will be a Harvest Thanksgiving at Michelham Priory. Join the congregation for worship and apple picking.

LIONS DOG SHOW: On Sunday September 25, the Lions Dog Show will be taking place throughout the day in Upper Dicker Village Hall. Further details will follow.

AGM: On Friday September 30, the Dicker Residents’ Association AGM will start at 7.30pm in Upper Dicker Village Hall. In addition to discussion on planning matters and other issues, up to six committee members are elected. Do come along to the meeting.

VILLAGE HALL AGM: On Friday, October 14 starting at 7pm in Arlington Village Hall, the Arlington Village Hall Committee will hold its AGM. All are welcome.

DICKER COPSE WORK PARTY: A work party will be held in the Dicker Copse on Sunday November 13, from 10am to noon when excess Blackthorn and Brambles will be cut back. A small hedge pack has been requested from the Woodland Trust. It is hoped that a few Hazel saplings can be planted to fill a gap in the Copse and that a few Hawthorn and Dog Rose plants can improve the hedgerow. Volunteers are very welcome.
