ARMY'S GREEN GODESSES READY FOR ACTION

IN the first 12 hours of the fire strike, Royal Naval personnel manning the special Operation Fresco control centre at Lewes received 21 calls from across the county.

Four were attended by solely by police and four by Green Goddesses under police escort. There were no calls in this period from Bexhill.

Only an hour before the scheduled 6pm start of the strike on Wednesday, Bexhill firefighters joined police and ambulance officers at the scene of a road crash.

London Road was blocked to evening rush-hour traffic after a Renault Megane and a Yamaha motorcycle were in collision at the junction with Cambridge Road.

The motorcycle rider was taken to the Conquest Hospital at Hastings with serious leg and arm injuries.

Firefighters dealt with the badly damaged motorcycle which was leaking petrol on to the road.
