In the last two weeks there have been two deliberate fires set in an Eastbourne park, triggering police officers to put out a warning.

Emergency services were called to an arson attack in Shinewater Park on April 14.

Just one week later, on April 21, another fire was set at around 8.10pm by Shinewater Lake close to the A22 Golden Jubilee Way bridge.

In response to these fires, Sussex Police has said, “Arson and deliberate fires are a serious issue as they can endanger lives and divert valuable emergency service resources.

“Police work in close partnership with the fire service, ambulance service, local authorities and neighbourhood watch schemes to educate people on the dangers of arson and deliberate fires, with the aim of preventing future incidents of this nature.

“Police take all types of anti-social behaviour very seriously, as we acknowledge the distress and harm it can cause to people living and working in our communities.

“Officers carry out regular patrols on foot and in vehicles as part of their day-to-day activity, with a focus on hotspot areas for crime and anti-social behaviour.

“If an area has seen an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour, patrols will be carried out more regularly in that area to identify and deter any further criminal behaviour.”
