Fire crews from Bognor Regis were called to the scene to tackle the blaze, which meant they were unable to support colleagues with another fire in Felpham at the same time.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

The cricket club took to social media to thank police for their support but said anti-social behaviour is 'genuinely getting out of hand'.

A spokesman for Bognor Fire Station said: "Blue Watch on 44P1 supported by our RDS colleagues on 44M1 have just returned from a deliberate fire in the open.

"These actions tied up resources that could have gone to another incident happening at exactly the same time in Felpham. Please do not set fires deliberately."

Aldwick Cricket Club said in a Tweet: "This was on our grounds by the river. The amount of anti social behaviour occurring here recently is genuinely getting out of hand - it seems a daily occurrence.

"We thank @sussex_police for their continued support - we can only do so much to prevent it."
