Arsonists wreck protected dunes in Littlehampton

ARSONISTS destroyed a 300 sq m patch of protected sand dunes in Littlehampton last night (Monday, June 24).

The fire was sparked on West Beach, at 10.58pm. Two crews of firefighters from the town, assisted by a water carrier vehicle, battled the blaze for almost an hour before it was eventually extinguished.

They used one high-pressure water hose and a number of beaters to beat the blaze.

l Elsewhere in the town, officers attended a small accidental fire at a factory and office complex in Hawthorn Road, at 8.03pm.

An industrial computer transformer pack had caught alight. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras and six CO2 extinguishers to quell the flames.

Safety advice was later given to the building’s occupants.
