Lewes Arts has announced that the first solo exhibition featuring new work by artist Olivia Bullock will be held at The Stable Gallery, Paddock Studios, Lewes, from March 22-30.

‘Musicology’ is a compelling collection of painting and collage based around the disciplines of music and sculpted figures.

Times at the Paddock Lane venue are 10am-5pm weekends; 10am-3pm weekdays. Admission is free.

Lewes Arts was set up as a platform for artists in Sussex by Sarah Norris in March last year.

Olivia is a Lewes-based artist and illustrator. Much of her thematic inspiration is gathered from legends, stories and traditions.

Her invented beasts, masked beings, dysfunctional and humorous characters occupy a captivating, mythological world.

Like her illustrations, the sculptures inhabit a dark and mysterious place. They have an intimacy and a living presence, yet they are inanimate and ‘unreal’, charismatic yet flawed.

She has won high praise from fellow artists. Pete Fowler said: “One of the brightest artists working in the UK at the moment. An inspiring, intelligent and playful artist who I’m sure will go from strength to strength. Long live Liv!”

And Tom Homewood commented: “Delicate ideas. Gorgeous colour combinations. Sharp draughtsmanship.”
