Artist and pupils will decorate Asda with dinos

Youngsters from schools across Hastings and St Leonards have been working with a local artist as part of a project to decorate the new Asda supermarket.

Pupils from Silverdale, Christ Church CE, New Horizons and Hollington Primary were encouraged to paint a dinosaur '“ the theme chosen because an almost complete dinosaur fossil skeleton was discovered next to the new store's site in Silverhill back in 1891.

The children were asked to imagine what sort of creatures would have lived on the site before man '“ and Asda was inundated with suggestions.

Hastings-based artist Juliette Dodd and mosaic expert Susan Elliott this week had the difficult job of picking a winning picture from each of the schools.

Miss Dodd said: "We received hundreds of pictures and Susan and I spent a long time choosing the winning pictures, specifically picking the most colourful and imaginative ones as well as showing a range of different species."

Miss Elliott made the final decision as she will be reproducing the children's images as part of an eye catching mosaic.

The winners included Megan Flynn, six (Silverdale), Paige Lloyd, six (Christ Church) and Tazzie Way, seven (Hollington Primary).

Anyone who would like to get involved should head to the Asda stall at the Greater Hollington Fun Day taking place today (Friday) between 11am and 3pm at Gibbons Memorial Field, in Wishing Tree Lane.
