An art gallery in Hailsham, which was given a lottery grant, opened its doors to the public again on Saturday (August 3).
Gallery North had been closed for refurbishment for the past two months. It recently received a lottery grant from Awards for All. The grant is to assist with marketing, promotion and gallery equipment.
At the same time Wealden District Council has completed urgent structural repairs which have transformed the outside of the building, and with its new look the gallery is now ready to re -open.
Jenny West, gallery director, said: “We are all absolutely delighted - the council have been very supportive and Faringdons Builders have done an excellent job.
“When we heard about the successful grant application from Awards for All it was the icing on the cake. We hope to have a new picture hanging system installed by September along with new furnishings and lighting. it will make a big difference to our loyal volunteers and many visitors and with our new resources we intend to promote the gallery further afield, which should bring more visitors in to the town.”
The opening exhibition at the gallery includes new works by established abstract artist Tony Spencer. The exhibition, which also includes paintings, prints and photography by a number of professional artists, is open from 10am - 4pm Tuesday to Saturday, commencing last Saturday and running until August 31.
