Arun Co-ordinated Community Transport back to full strength

An “essential service” is back to full strength, after a new car was added to its fleet.

Arun Co-ordinated Community Transport, which takes thousands of disabled and elderly patients to the hospital, doctor, dentist and on shopping and other trips each year, now has an extra wheelchair-friendly vehicle to lighten the load.

The National Lottery provided a grant of £10,000 to put towards the new car, alleviating fears that, without the new car, the group, based in Church Street, Littlehampton, would not be able to serve a significant proportion of its customers.

Project manager Peter Austin said: “We were elated to receive our new vehicle.

“We’ve never received a grant from the Lottery and it could not have come at a better time.

“It would have been difficult for us to continue providing such an essential service for people with disabilities, without a new wheelchair accessible vehicle.

“It’s the everyday things which people can not always manage – shopping, a trip to the hospital or to the dentists’.

“Over the months, we’ve had to tell people we could not accommodate them because we had no other cars available.

“We are all just relieved to be fortunate enough to be given this grant and I would like to thank everyone at the National Lottery for making this possible.”

Peter hopes the new car, a Vauxhall Combo, will last roughly eight years.
