Arun council makes charitable donation

MORE than £4,000 has been donated by Arun District Council chairman Dennis Wilde to charity.

Cllr Wilde presented a cheque for £4,3336.06 to his chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, at his final reception. It was accepted by Mandy Kendall, the charity’s fundraising manager south.

Cllr Wilde has attended many functions during the past year, with his engagements spanning the Arun district and Sussex.

He will hand over his chain of office at the council’s annual meeting on May 9.

“I have had a truly inspiring and humbling year attending great events across our marvellous district. It has been extremely rewarding and a great honour to meet so many wonderful people across our community.

“My wife Enfys and I have been made to feel so welcome and met with great enthusiasm at the many occasions we have attended,” he said.

The highlights of his year have included a charity dinner dance at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel, a Christmas reception and a farewell reception to the council’s former chief executive, Ian Sumnall.

Council leader Gillian Brown said: “Dennis has been a great ambassador for this district and I thank him for his work in promoting Arun and its residents.”

Cllr Wilde will be succeeded by Ann Smee, a district councillor for Bersted.
