Arun denies it has 'dirtiest streets in England.'

Arun council has hit back at claims the district has the 'dirtiest streets in England'.

The label has been given to the area following a report by the Audit Commission which reveals that 50 per cent of the streets in Arun were considered unclean in 2004/2005 - the highest of any local council in the country.

Figures which the report is based on were provided by the local councils themselves from inspections carried out around the district three times a year.

Services director for Arun Colin Rogers feels his inspectors may have been 'over-zealous' when judging the cleanliness of the district's streets.
