Arun district chairman gives charities a £4,000 boost

IT WAS a grand night for Arun’s outgoing chairman, councillor Dennis Wilde, as he handed over a cheque for more the £4,000 to charity.

Dennis, who has been fund-raising for Macmillan Cancer Support throughout his year in office, presented the charity with an impressive cheque for £4,336.06 during his final reception night, earlier this month (April).

He said: “I have had a truly inspiring and humbling year, attending great events across our marvellous district. It has been extremely rewarding and a great honour to meet so many wonderful people from our community.

“My wife, Enfys, and I have been made to feel so welcome and were met with great enthusiasm at the many occasions we have attended. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to act as ambassador for Arun District Council.”

Dennis said that his highlights of his term in office included a civic service at Angmering Baptist Church, the Community Hero Awards, a farewell reception for Arun’s former chief executive Ian Sumnall, as well as a charity dinner dance at the Hilton Avisford Park, in February, which raised more than £1,000. Council leader Gillian Brown praised Dennis for being a “great ambassador” for the district.

Dennis wished to thank all those who have helped him over the year.

He said: “During this period of austerity it makes me very proud to know that we can still pull together for charity and raise money for those who need our support.”
