In a landmark legal move on Friday (June 5), Sussex Police and Arun District Council received permission from magistrates to enforce a ‘closure notice’ on 31, Ash Grove, Bognor.
Chichester magistrates granted the notice this afternoon after police and the council said offensive behaviour associated with the home had a ‘big impact’ on lives of nearby residents.
Speaking from the scene this evening, Jenny McMann, from Arun District Council, welcomed the magistrates’ decision.
“Arun District Council, in partnership with Sussex Police, applied for a closure order after persistent reports of anti-social behaviour from residents of Ash Grove,” she said.
“The impact of this behaviour has been detrimental to the local community. This is the first time a closure order under new legislation has been carried out in Sussex and we hope this will improve the quality of life for the local community.
“Hopefully this reassures victims and sends a message to perpetrators that anti-social behaviour won’t be tolerated.”
