Arun orders facelift for run-down Littlehampton house

Negotiations between Arun’s planning enforcement team and the owners of the listed building, in Western Road, failed to achieve the necessary improvements.

The council became involved following complaints from neighbours that the property was in a state of disrepair.

Arun’s planning enforcement team served a notice ordering the owners to remove and replace damaged render, and then repaint the exterior; and replace damaged woodwork, to be repainted together with windows.

The three-storey house is the second building in Western Road to have undergone a makeover in two months on the instructions of the council.

Councillor Ricky Bower, Arun cabinet member with responsibility for planning, said: “The improvement in the appearance of the second property within the Littlehampton seafront conservation area further enhances the area.

“We always try to negotiate with property owners, but where this fails we will always use our enforcement powers to achieve a quality environment.”

Arun has also been taking action against owners of flats and houses in the conservation area which have been fitted with replacement uPVC windows, in breach of standards laid down for listed buildings.
