Arun presents Middleton's 'unsung heroes' with award

Volunteers who help to keep Middleton clean have been recognised for their efforts.

The residents' association members were presented with an award for being unsung heroes.

They were among three groups represented at a special community ceremony hosted by Arun District Council chairman Cllr Ashvin Patel.

The council chose the organisations from the nine successful bids for clean and safe grants of 250-500 from its crime and disorder reduction partnership. The residents' association spent its cash on litter picks and organised several clean-up days on their local greensward and beach.

Georgina Holland, the council's community safety manager, said: "We know that Arun is full of people who work hard to make a real difference.

"But these three particular groups have done some outstanding work and it is fitting that they should be recognised in this way."

The other organisations at the awards ceremony came from Littlehampton and Rustington.
