Arundel and Littlehampton Scouts celebrate centenary in style

This year sees the Arundel and Littlehampton District Scouts Group celebrating 100 years of Scouting.

And after 18 months of planning, youngsters from across the district travelled to the New Forest to take part in a Centenary Camp.

They all joined in a programme of thrilling activities, from building rafts to testing their nerve abseiling. Traditional past times like stoking a giant camp fire were also enjoyed. Members of Beaver groups, the movement’s youngest section, visited for an action-packed day.

Campers showed their flair during a “District’s Got Talent” event, which ended with the cutting of four giant birthday cakes.

The Arundel and Littlehampton association was established just six years after the Scouting movement began in 1907. There were originally just four troops with a total strength of 105.

But a century later, the district has more than 1,000 members across 10 groups and four Explorer units.

It also boasts the only Scout marching band in Sussex, regularly featuring in parades.
